Centuries ago, poets, musicians, novelists, and artists in England and all over Europe found themselves repeating the same dilemma. Though the works of these various types of artists were vastly different, they shared one unfortunate common trait -- many were not born rich. They did not have the money to publish, promote, or otherwise, make publicly known what they wrote, composed, or painted. So they either sought employment or they free-lanced in their field. Many were unsuccessful. It is possible that people had to give up their talents and dreams forever just to put food on the table from a more practical standpoint. One only has to read the differences of how two composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Joseph Haydn, dealt with their failures and successes, how wonderful it was or could have been, to have had a Patron for as long as needed, to support them. Without a patron, their works wouldn't amount to much of anything. This was a sad and unfortunate fact of life.
Patrons, sometimes common folk, were very often rich people, even noble. They had the money, while the poor artists had the talent. Some Patrons employed, to sometimes a permanent extent, people who would please, entertain, compose, perform, write, or paint for them by way of their talents.
Today's version of Patrons exists in Grants and Endowments. The problem with obtaining financing to fund works today is very much a catch-22. Much of the time, these types of money are conditional and only given to those who are previously published, recorded, or have somehow proven themselves established. Do they need additional help? Or should the money be better placed on undiscovered talents who, like those centuries ago, never got the chance?
Then there are donations, or gifts, if you will, that people make while they're alive. Charities and Foundations are often the recipients of large donations or bequests. Many of them are funded with Billions of donation dollars every year. And while many are for good causes, much of that money could goto individuals, directly. It's sad many donors simply don't know where else to donate their money.
It is here that I am making people aware of this. It is here that I ask, directly, for Donors, or Patrons, to help defray the cost of publishing my book that might not otherwise, be possible. I haven't the resources to fund the cost of publishing my book.
I very much want to see my book in print. Sonnets for a Soulmate contains several important messages I feel would help those struggling in their lives.
If you have not already done so, read a sneek peek from a few excerpt pages of my book before you make a decision to give.
